MuxCo is a joint-venture between Arqiva and Folder Media and was created to bid for new DAB Digital Licences across the country. In each area MuxCo partners with other media companies to collectively bid for each licence. The shareholders vary from area to area depending on who would like to be involved.
This may sound a little complicated but it means that local radio stations can benefit from partly owning their local multiplex. This reduces their costs, and for many, is the only way for them to be able to afford to broadcast on DAB Digital Radio. Folder Media will then manage each of the local multiplexes on the shareholders behalf, letting them concentrate on building their own radio businesses
Folder Media
Folder Media provides consultancy and services to radio stations across Europe, operates the children’s radio station Fun Kids and leads the development of MuxCo. Folder Media was created by Gregory Watson and Matt Deegan.
Gregory has huge experience of local digital radio having been GCap’s Group Corporate Development Director. He co-wrote Digital One’s original licence application and created NOWdigital, GCap’s local multiplex network. He also sat on the boards of MXR and CE Digital.
Matt is one of the leading voices chronicling radio’s development from an analogue to a digital medium. He’s the Programme Director of Fun Kids and helps advise radio and media companies.
Arqiva
With more than 80 years of broadcast engineering and operations experience, and more than 20 years of wireless communications infrastructure experience, Arqiva is an acknowledged leader in the design, deployment, ownership and operation of advanced communications and broadcast networks.
